Parenting is one of the most rewarding experiences, but it can also feel overwhelming—especially when it comes to sleep, potty training, and behavioral challenges. If you're feeling exhausted, unsure of what steps to take, or struggling to find reliable solutions, you're not alone. Many parents face these same challenges and seek expert guidance to make life easier. In this post you will hear my point of view and Institute of Pediatric Sleep and Parenting Review and how it played a pivotal role in my journey, providing me with the knowledge and tools to support families with science-backed, safe, and effective strategies.
The Institute of Pediatric Sleep & Parenting Review: Why I TRUST it!
The Institute of Pediatric Sleep and Parenting provides in-depth training that focuses on child development, sleep science, and relationship-based parenting techniques. Their evidence-based approach gave me the confidence to support families with strategies that are not only effective but also safe for children. By learning directly from a registered nurse, I knew I was receiving high-quality education rooted in current research and best practices.
Beyond my IPSP certifications, I have a diploma in Early Childhood Education from Okanagan College (2009), with additional certifications as a Special Needs Educator and Infant/Toddler Educator (2016). I also take many professional development courses each year to stay up to date with the latest research in child development, sleep, and parenting. My passion for learning ensures that every family I work with receives reliable, personalized, and science-backed support.
Why Work with a Certified Consultant?
Many parents try to figure things out on their own, reading endless articles and trying different methods with little success. The truth is, parenting challenges aren’t one-size-fits-all. Having an experienced consultant means you get:
Personalized guidance based on your child’s developmental stage and temperament.
Evidence-based solutions that are gentle, effective, and designed for long-term success.
Ongoing support so you’re never navigating these challenges alone.
Parents who have worked with me often say they feel more confident, less stressed, and better equipped to handle parenting challenges after our time together. I’ve helped families transform their sleep struggles, successfully potty train their toddlers/preschoolers, and create calmer home environments where both parents and children thrive.
If you’re feeling stuck, I’d love to help. My consulting services are designed to take the guesswork out of parenting and give you the confidence you need to move forward with ease.
My Journey to Becoming a Consultant
My passion for working with children started long before I became a consultant. I spent over a decade as an Early Childhood Educator, running a 3-5 year old program in my hometown childcare centre, helping children aged 0-5 years old blossom and supporting parents through the ups and downs of early development. But in 2020, everything changed.
When the pandemic hit, my childcare center shut down, and I found myself at home with my husband and my then 8-year-old son. At first, it felt strange—but then I realized something: I loved the slower lifestyle. I finally had time to breathe, to spend quality moments with my family, and to really think about what I wanted.
When the daycare reopened, I went back—but I quickly felt drained. The 9-to-5 grind was exhausting, and I struggled to juggle work, house chores, and my son’s online learning. Without the pandemic shutdown, I don’t think I would have realized just how much I needed a change. I needed a career that gave me flexibility, fulfillment, and more financial stability.
That’s when I discovered sleep consulting. After seeing the impact a sleep consultant had on a friend’s family, I knew this was something I wanted to pursue. I had already been guiding parents through sleep struggles for years, but I wanted to deepen my knowledge and become certified so I could provide expert, science-backed support.
I researched certification programs and found the Institute of Pediatric Sleep and Parenting (IPSP). Like many people considering this path, I hesitated—was this the right move? Would I be able to start my own business? Was it worth the investment?
The more I learned about IPSP, the more confident I became. Their science-backed curriculum taught by a registered Nurse (Violet Giannone - who is Aaahhh-mazing 💗), expert-led training, and business guidance made all the difference. I took the leap, enrolled, and never looked back.
Since then, I’ve built a successful business, Calming Roots - Sleep & Parenting Consulting, where I help families who have children aged birth to 6 years old with: Sleep, Potty training, and Behavioural challenges. My background in Early Childhood Education, combined with my IPSP training, allows me to provide parents with practical, compassionate, and research-backed solutions.
I first became certified as a Sleep Consultant through IPSP in 2020, followed by completing the Potty Training Consultant Course in 2021. I chose IPSP for my training because I loved how it was taught by a registered nurse who is also a Mom. Giving me the confidence that I was learning from someone who understood both the science and the practical application behind sleep and parenting. Now, I can confidently provide my families with science-backed, safe, and reliable information in my packages, ensuring they receive the best support possible.
I even had the incredible opportunity to write a lesson for IPSP on managing the dynamics between clients and their daycare—a topic close to my heart. Becoming a faculty member for IPSP is such an amazing personal accomplishment for myself!
While I love my consulting work, I also missed being in the classroom. That’s why I now teach preschool part-time for my school district and support kindergarten classrooms as an Early Childhood Educator. The best part? I can do all of this while running a thriving business, creating my own schedule, and prioritizing my family.
How IPSP Changed My Life
Once I took the leap, everything changed. This course has given me so much freedom. In my old job, I had a salary cap, strict hours, and zero flexibility.
Now, I get to decide:
✅ How much I want to work each month
✅ When I take time off
✅ Whether I want to attend my son’s events without asking for permission
Beyond the flexibility, the personal fulfillment has been incredible. Seeing families transform and thrive after working with me is the best feeling. Some of my clients have been with me since the very start, and they still text or email me life updates—it’s so rewarding!
IPSP’s curriculum set me up so well to become a consultant. The coursework gave me a solid foundation and the confidence to take on clients right away. The best part is, that I have lifetime access to the courses I have taken and Violet is constantly adding new modules. It makes it so easy to stay up-to-date with new information and I can reference back to the course whenever I have a new client and want to double check techniques.
